Refer Which version of Windows operating system am I running? I would suggest you to try running Windows update troubleshooter on the computer and see if that helps. Refer the article on Windows Update Troubleshooter. You can also try resetting Windows update component and see if that helps. Refer the article How to:Reset Windows update components in Windows.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the article Troubleshoot problems updating Windows 10 and see if that helps. Note: The last step in the article talks about performing a clean installation of Windows. Please do not perform a clean installation.

Note: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

You can also try installing the update manually and check. Also, if you are using a security software, I would suggest you to temporarily disable it and then try installing the update. Note: If you disable the security software or firewall, the system might be temporarily exposed to security threats and risks. Please make sure to turn it on after performing the steps.
